How StratDev Tech Is Helping Nonprofits Build Stronger, More Sustainable Fundraising

By Al Spector, President

Strategic Development Technologies (“StratDev Tech”) has helped dozens of nonprofits—across a wide range of missions—become stronger fundraisers. The range of Bay Area organizations they’ve supported includes a pivotal hub for the arts community in Marin County, a symphony in Berkeley, The Museum of San Francisco, a youth sports training foundation on the Peninsula, and many others.

The company was started just over five years ago by Matt Grigorieff and Al Spector with a very specific purpose: to help nonprofits build fundraising strength by diversifying their revenue sources—specifically by expanding individual giving. The need was clear. In today’s environment, organizations risk becoming overly reliant on a small number of grants or government contracts. StratDev Tech’s goal has been to help each organization strengthen long-term fundraising capacity to better support and sustain its mission.

From their experience as board members of a Bay Area nonprofit (Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program), and through their work in nonprofit management, Matt and Al saw the need for a different approach. Their model has remained focused on building community—expanding an ever-growing constituency without geographic limits—by using the evolving tools and data technologies now available.

In the early years, their work centered on rebuilding the back-office development functions of several Bay Area nonprofits. This included helping organizations implement simple, effective systems—such as event registration tools, donor databases, and communication platforms—while also guiding them in developing strategic, year-long fundraising plans and providing the support needed to execute them.

At the same time, StratDev Tech began converting traditional in-person fundraising events into live-streamed experiences through their production company, StratDev Studios. What began as a practical adaptation has evolved into a hybrid model: combining in-person audiences with parallel online experiences that expand reach and accessibility.

The results validated the approach. Organizations began reaching audiences not only locally, but across the country. New supporters discovered these events, some contributing immediately, others simply engaging and learning more. While immediate donations were not the sole objective, the broader goal was achieved—expanding awareness, deepening engagement, and building a pipeline of future supporters.

Since those early days, StratDev Tech’s work has continued to evolve. In addition to rebuilding development platforms, their live broadcasting and film production services have become central to helping organizations build and sustain engaged communities—ultimately strengthening their fundraising capacity.

Today, StratDev Tech provides a range of services tailored to each organization’s needs. For some, this means broadcast and film production tied to specific fundraising events. For others, it includes a broader partnership: re-engineering internal fundraising systems, providing strategic guidance, supporting membership and development programs, and delivering staff training.

The studio work is produced through StratDev Studios (www.stratdevstudios.com), while the structural and strategic development services are delivered through Strategic Development Technologies LLC (www.stratdevtech.com).
