Job Title: Fund Development Director
Status: Full-Time/Salaried/Exempt
Salary Range: $100,000-$110,000
Reports to: Executive Director
Community Health Initiative (CHI), a leading Napa and Solano County non-profit dedicated to expanding access to healthcare through enrollment assistance, patient education, and advocacy, is seeking a passionate and experienced Fund Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts.

The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Executive Director, this is a unique opportunity to lead a critical function and play a pivotal role in securing CHI's financial sustainability. The Fund Development Director will develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan, manage a portfolio of major donors, optimize our fee-for-service strategies, oversee all aspects of our fundraising operations and execute all necessary marketing and brand identity efforts. The Fund Development Director will actively cultivate relationships with key funders in Northern California and the Bay Area, drawing on their experience and network to propel CHI's growth.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Develop and lead organizational fundraising strategy to achieve and surpass annual fundraising goals.
- Establish a robust fundraising system and processes, and tools to maximize fundraising capacity including overseeing donor management database and working with data entry staff person.
- Enhance existing fee-for-service strategies with the aim of meeting the annual operating budget/programmatic needs.
- Secure major gifts (>$10,000) through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-net-worth individuals and foundations.
- Evaluate progress toward goals and provide regular reporting to the ED and the Board of Directors.
- Stay current on fundraising trends and best practices.
- Collaborate with operational strategies to ensure alignment with fund development goals.
- Lead and collaborate with staff on the management and planning of fundraising events and donor receptions.
- Execute an annual mail campaign, which includes drafting the solicitation letter, collecting and incorporating feedback, developing the mailing list and executing the mailing.
- Work closely with the Finance team to ensure fundraising efforts align with budget and long-term goals.
- Develop and implement a multi-channel fundraising approach, including electronic, print, and face-to-face solicitations targeting individuals, businesses, and foundations.
- Lead grant request efforts, proposals and application submission and tracking, and collaborate with the leadership team.
- Develop processes to create client engagement to meet outreach and lead generator goals.
- Craft and execute communication strategies to raise awareness and garner support for CHI’s mission and fundraising initiatives.
- Identify, engage and mobilize lead volunteers to assist in effective solicitations and other fundraising activities, particularly major donor engagement.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of fundraising experience, including experience closing major gifts and grant writing.
- In-depth knowledge and experience in all aspects of philanthropy, including giving trends, benchmarks, and best practices; research; fundraising techniques and strategies; data analytics; and development operations such as gift processing, prospect and donor research, and fundraising reporting.
- Experience using Salesforce for donor relation tracking.
- Experience in overseeing and tracking grant prospects and applications.
- Ability to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies that include a range of funding sources.
- Proven track record of raising funds for non-profits that have an annual budget of at least $1 million, with experience developing and managing fundraising strategies.
- Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers.
- Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships when appropriate.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to translate program information to diverse stakeholders ranging from employees, residents and families to high net worth donors.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience; Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred
