Meet Our 2026 Chamberlain Scholarship Recipient – Alexis Young
AFP Golden Gate is pleased to announce Alexis Young as our 2026 Chamberlain Scholarship recipient. The Chamberlain Scholarship enables the recipient to attend AFP ICON, the world’s leading conference for fundraising professionals.
Alexis’s Reflection
“ I am really looking forward to learning more about fundraising and connecting with other professionals in the field. As a young professional in the nonprofit sector, I have had few opportunities to meet peers at similar organizations, and I’m excited to gain insight into how other nonprofits operate, their donor development strategies, systems, and best practices. This will be my first conference focused specifically on fundraising and development, and I am eager to take full advantage of the learning and networking opportunities. Thank you again for this incredible opportunity! ”
About Alexis
My career path reflects AFP Golden Gate’s commitment to diversity by centering inclusivity, equity, and representation in every aspect of my work. In my current role at Pomeroy, I support adults with a wide range of developmental and physical disabilities, whose experiences and needs vary from minimal to total support. This requires creating programs, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising initiatives that honor each individual’s unique perspective, strengths, and goals.

I have intentionally built my work around amplifying voices that are often underrepresented. In grant writing and communications, I prioritize storytelling that highlights the lived experiences of participants, ensuring that donors and stakeholders see the full spectrum of our community. In volunteer management, I strive to recruit, engage, and retain volunteers from diverse backgrounds, fostering a culture of inclusion where everyone can contribute meaningfully and feel valued.

My career also embraces diversity through collaboration across departments, organizations, and community partners, including local nonprofits, educational institutions, and government agencies, to bring a wide range of perspectives into program design, fundraising, and community engagement. By doing so, I help ensure that our work is responsive to the needs of the varied communities we serve in the Bay Area.

Engaging with AFP Golden Gate provides an opportunity to carry these values into the broader fundraising community. I am committed to promoting inclusive practices in all aspects of my career path. My experience demonstrates a consistent focus on building spaces where diverse experiences, perspectives, and cultures are not only represented but actively celebrated, strengthening the vitality and effectiveness of the organization I serve.
Congratulations, Alexis!
We are proud to support Alexis as she attends AFP ICON 2026 in San Diego and continues growing her impact in the nonprofit sector.
