Trailblazers Column 5 (September 2025)
Our monthly Trailblazers column shines a light on our members and other Bay Area development professionals who dedicate their lives and careers to creating a world of generosity and positive social good through fundraising. — Michael Stein and Andrew Allanson.
Thelma Andree – Designer and Creative/Digital Marketing Consultant
Thelma Andree is a designer and creative/digital marketing consultant who has spent over a decade working almost exclusively with nonprofit organizations. She was most recently Production & Design Director at Fresh Eyes Digital where she led creative and campaign execution for fundraising clients across the nonprofit sector, and is now launching her own solo practice, And Thelma Creates, where she partners with fundraisers, communicators, marketers, and social-good agencies to bring campaigns to life.
Her expertise spans campaign design, email and digital journey builds, marketing, and marketing operations. Having spent much of her career in-house, Thelma knows firsthand the reality of “wearing all the hats.” She now focuses on making complex creative and technical processes feel approachable, whether streamlining a campaign build or reimagining visuals for a gala. Her goal is always to give nonprofit staff more time to focus on the work that matters most: the mission!
Over the years, she has worked across animal welfare, social services, women’s leadership, and environmental causes, building a reputation as a positive, collaborative partner who “just gets it.”
“Having seen nonprofits from both the inside and as a consultant, I have deep respect and empathy for fundraisers and the challenges they face. My role is to make their jobs easier so they can shine, and together create the greatest impact!”
Camille Kennedy, Associate Vice President, Principal and Major Gifts, Environmental Defense Fund
Camille Kennedy is a values-driven nonprofit executive and urban planner with over 30 years of impact-driven leadership. Currently Associate Vice President at the Environmental Defense Fund, Camille leads strategic initiatives to combat climate change and advance environmental justice, bridging philanthropy, policy, and grassroots action.
Their journey began in 1992 at the Boston Living Center, where Camille launched a congregate meals program for people living with HIV/AIDS—an enduring service that continues to nourish thousands. That experience sparked a lifelong commitment to equity, care, and community empowerment.
Camille has held senior roles across sectors, including Vice President of Philanthropy at LifeMoves, Silicon Valley’s largest provider of interim housing and supportive services, and Senior Director of Advancement Strategy at the Ms. Foundation for Women. Their work is defined by bold vision, inclusive engagement, and a deep understanding of systems-level change.
With a master’s in urban planning from Harvard and early planning roles in New York and California, Camille brings a civic-minded lens to every challenge. They currently serve on the San Mateo County LGBTQIA+ Commission, advocating for equity and inclusion across communities and on the board of the Wender Weis Foundation for Children.
A parent of three, Camille remains deeply engaged in building a more just, sustainable, and compassionate world.
“I believe lasting change happens when we bridge bold vision with deep care—when philanthropy, policy, and community come together to build systems rooted in equity, sustainability, and dignity. My work has always been about lifting voices, removing barriers, and designing futures where everyone belongs.”
Priyanka Sharma-Sindhar
If you’ve been to a gathering of the East Bay constellation of AFP’s Golden Gate chapter, then you’ve probably met Priyanka. She co-hosts these fun evenings with co-host and fellow volunteer Michael Stein. Her involvement in the chapter goes back to the Covid-era, when she volunteered on the Marketing and Communications committee.
“This chapter has been such a wonderful resource for me. I’ve found camaraderie and a supportive network of peers to learn from and grow with,” she says.
Priyanka, like many fundraisers, didn’t start out wanting to work in development. Her passion – and all of her life’s work – is journalism. She used to be a reporter and then an editor, equipped with a Master’s degree in journalism from UC Berkeley. A firm believer in the necessity of an accurately-informed public (Democracy dies when journalism dies), she crossed over to the revenue side about a decade ago when she saw her industry’s financial woes and wanted to help in some way. Newsrooms began to embrace the not-for-profit model and she realized that she really enjoyed raising money by advocating for journalism. These days, she’s the vice president of philanthropy at her favorite news organization, The Conversation. Come and say hi to her at the next east bay mixer on September 25th!
