Position Summary

 

The Director of Planned Giving (Administrator II - DPG) is responsible for leading, setting priorities, and making strategic decisions for the University's Planned Giving program, which complements and is integrated within University Development's major gifts program. The primary function of the DPG is to raise funds through Planned Giving vehicles working independently to achieve goals, as well as collaboratively with University Development colleagues. The DPG also partners with University Advancement staff, campus colleagues, and volunteers to meet annual Planned Giving goals in support of university-wide fundraising priorities. The DPG leads university-wide Planned Giving fundraising efforts, provides expertise and guidance, and is responsible for providing Development staff with Planned Giving strategies and giving tools, and information on new/updated laws, and trends. The DPG is also responsible for raising money for the University Library in partnership with the Dean of Library. The DPG reports directly to the Associate Vice President for University Development.

 

FLSA: Exempt

 

Anticipated Hiring Range: $9,166 per month - $10,416 per month

 

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,583 per month - $14,713 per month

Required Qualifications

 

Education/Experience:

 

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

• Five or more years of experience in successful relationship building with prospects, volunteers, and board members, or demonstrated aptitude to be successful in face-to-face fundraising.

• Two or more years of experience in planned giving, preferably in higher education or similar environment, with a verifiable record of success.

• Experience in event planning and management.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

• Understanding of planned giving and planned gift methods/vehicles.

• Knowledge of comprehensive fundraising programs in an academic environment.

• Proficiency with planned giving software (i.e., Crescendo or comparable program), fundraising software (i.e., Advance, Blackbaud), as well as standard office software packages (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite).

• Leadership skills with the ability to direct, manage and motivate others (e.g. fundraisers, volunteers, advisory groups).

• Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to write and speak persuasively about philanthropic support for higher education through planned giving; ability to communicate knowledgeably about the institution's management of endowments and other funds; ability to represent the University in public forums.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and highly developed sense of protocol.

• Excellent organization and detail-oriented skills to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while effectively meeting objectives.

• Ability to develop and structure complex planned gifts in an academic environment.

• Ability and willingness to make “cold calls” to prospects and the ability to be successful in developing relationships through this method.

• Ability to set, manage, and implement fundraising goals and strategies.

• Ability to work independently, lead and train others, and serve as a member of a team.

Work Schedule Requirements:

 

• Willingness and ability to travel per the functions of this position.

• Ability to work on-call, evenings, and weekends.

Licenses:

 

• Possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of good driving record.

• Professional credential, such as a Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG).
