About the Job
The individual giving manager finds, cultivates, and solicits individual donors, concentrating on gifts of $2,500 or more. This person reports to the executive director.
Key Responsibilities
Job responsibilities fall into two main areas:
Major donors
- Identify and solicit prospective major donors—those who can give at least $2,500 annually
- Maintain good relationships with major donors, which may include in-person meetings
- Work with board members to develop their connections
- Create events such as lectures, house parties, and receptions
- Recruit potential major donors for expeditions to island projects, and lead expeditions
- Manage relations with Seacology’s affiliate organizations in several countries
Management, outreach, and small donors
- Use media campaigns, direct mail, digital appeals, crowdfunding, or other methods to broaden awareness of Seacology and solicit smaller donations
- Manage donor database
- Lead year-end solicitation, writing appeal letters and coordinating preparation and mailing
- Coordinate with board development committee and give updates at semi-annual board meetings
- Represent Seacology at events and conferences, and with the media
Qualifications
- At least three years in nonprofit fundraising, including substantial experience cultivating and closing major gifts with high-net-worth individuals
- Keen interest in and commitment to environmental protection and international cultures
- Exceptional writing and public speaking skills
- Demonstrated proficiency with Salesforce database and email integration
- Experience working with social media and online fundraising or marketing platforms
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly, domestically and internationally, to meet with prospective major donors or to lead donor trips
Compensation
The annual salary is $85,000 to $97,000, depending on your skills and experience. We offer an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance. Seacology employees receive ample paid vacation and generous contributions to their 403(b) retirement plans.
