This is an opportunity to directly partner with our Development Director to support our grant fundraising efforts. As a new position in our organization, the Institutional Giving Manager will support existing fundraising efforts, draft compelling proposals, identify new partners, and develop our grant-seeking infrastructure. We are looking for a candidate who brings a compelling writing style, creative and strategic thinking, and strong organizational skills to source and pursue new funding opportunities. The right candidate will have: a strong,  quick, and highly effective writing ability, experience securing 6-figure grant proposals, a passion for FTP’s mission and values, and be excited to be a part of a growing organization. Candidates who have experience within the criminal justice system or have been directly system-impacted are encouraged to apply.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Grant Writing (60%)
    • Draft compelling grant LOIs and proposals that clearly illustrate our impact on funders and align with their specific interests. 
    • Write clear and detailed grant reports that display accomplishments during the grant period.
    • Receive feedback on drafted proposals from colleagues and quickly edit and update proposals.
  • Grant Research and Cultivation (15%)
    • Regularly research and qualify new Government, Foundation, and Corporate grant opportunities as viable prospects.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to identify projects and initiatives that align with the funder's interests.
    • Present new opportunities along with research and dossiers as needed to the Director of Development. 
    • Support the Executive Director and the Director of Development in relationship-building efforts with funders.
  • Grant Management (10%)
    • Track and ensure all grant deadlines are met.
    • Using project management methods, communicate and collaborate with colleagues across the organization to compile information needed for reports and proposals.
    • Build upon our grant database, GrantHub, optimizing its features and ensuring all documentation and notes are retained.
    • Track communication with funders, ensuring our stewardship goals are met for each partner and initiating activities as needed.
    • Regularly report progress toward goals, tactics, follow-through, roadblocks, and strategy to the Development Director.
  • Financial Budgeting and Reporting (10%)
    • In collaboration with the Development Director and Finance Team, draft grant budgets for funders.
    • Advise our Finance Team on the appropriate allocations and spending period of awarded grants.
  • Other duties as assigned (5%)

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Strong writing skills, resulting in clear, concise, and compelling written proposals.
  • Proven ability to quickly synthesize information. 
  • Strong editing skills, ability to quickly edit for grammar, clarity, and thoroughness of content.
  • 4+ years experience in grant writing and management, including:
    • Demonstrated understanding of the grant prospecting and application process, and general philanthropy landscape.
    • Demonstrated ability to write proposals resulting in 6+ figure grants and increase funding amounts from existing funders.
    • Experience applying for and managing government grants/contracts.
  • Demonstrated effective organization and collaboration skills. 
  • A familiarity with GrantHub or a similar grants management system.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate strategic thinking to align with funder interests. 
  • Experience working with program staff to develop data, statistics, and metrics that align with grant proposals. 
  • A driving passion for FTP’s mission is to reduce the number of people serving excessive sentences across the nation, end institutional racism, and restore human dignity to the incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, and all who are impacted by the criminal justice system. 
  • A start-up mentality, including a willingness to roll up your sleeves and enjoyment of every phase of this work from prospecting, to writing proposals and reports, to cultivating relationships, to tracking grant deliverables, to collaborating with teammates.
