Chinese American International School (CAIS) seeks a director of institutional advancement to report to the head of school. Founded in 1981 as the first Mandarin immersion school in the United States, the Chinese American International School (CAIS) educates 500 students from two-years-old through grade eight. Over the last four decades, CAIS has been recognized globally as a leader in bilingual education and an innovator for its commitment to immersive, cultural education through the study of language.

The position starts later this summer, one year before the school moves to its new campus in the western part of San Francisco. The next director of institutional advancement will have an opportunity to help the school
complete a capital campaign to move into that new campus. The director leads the advancement department, which includes four direct reports.

The Senior Grants Manager anchors a core piece of APEN’s fund development strategy by sharing our mission, vision, and impact with private foundations, family foundations, and other institutional philanthropic partners. The Senior Grants Manager leads this function through:

Coordinating the timely development and submission of grant proposals and reports, including direct writing as well supervising contract grant writers;
Strategic collaboration across staff to strengthen case development and funder communications;
Grants administration, including managing data on revenue and contacts in Salesforce, managing systems for tracking funder communications and grant activities, and coordinating stewardship activities with funders in consultation with APEN’s Development Director, Co-Directors, and other key staff.
The position requires excellent writing and editing skills, experience designing effective communications for foundations and philanthropic institutions, strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, and the ability to manage and track multiple projects at once, while keeping a close eye on details. The Senior Grants Manager is a member of APEN’s development team, reports to APEN’s Development Director, and works closely with the Development Associate and Co-Directors.

Overall Function
This is a unique opportunity for a development professional with success in individual major gifts fundraising to become part of the development team at one of the nation’s premier environmental organizations.

The Major Gifts Officer will be part of an international development team responsible for generating over $81 million in annual major gifts, with plans to double that amount in the coming years. This position will be responsible for managing a portfolio of around 150 donors and prospects. Working closely with senior professionals in the development department and program staff, the Major Gifts Officer is expected to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals in support of Environmental Defense Fund’s national and international agenda.

The Major Gifts Officer will report to the Senior Director of Major Gifts.
